Professional Therapy

At The Lighthouse Bali we provide you with a beacon of light, hope and support. One of our primary goals is to help you rediscover the real you.  Whether you are in a toxic relationship, stuck in a pattern of substance abuse, or burned out, we have the tools to help. Our unique program embraces the principles of compassion, science, health, spirituality, and therapy. Professional therapy is a pivotal part of your treatment program – it is instrumental in helping you navigate life’s ups and downs.  

At The Lighthouse Bali, we offer professional therapy with qualified international clinical psychologists from Australia, U.S.A, UK, and New Zealand. The Lighthouse therapists are available for one-to-one sessions in both our primary addiction program, as well as for private therapy in our Bali office, or, via Skype.  Our therapists offer treatment for a wide range of issues including addiction, anxiety, depression, relationship issues, trauma, and more.  Our office is located in Sanur, Bali and we are currently accepting private therapy clients, as well as inpatient substance abuse clients.

The Lighthouse Bali therapists utilize a wide range of modalities that are incorporated throughout your sessions.  Following your assessment, the psychologist will determine which modalities of therapy will be most effective, based on your wants and needs. Listed below are a few of the many clinical modalities that our psychologists will use during both our private therapy and recovery programs.

 

Our private counseling and therapy services are available face-to-face for those living in Bali or online via Zoom, Skype, Meets or What’s App. Face to face counseling sessions are conducted in our comfortable counseling suite in Sanur.

We understand how pivotal it is to have a therapist you can connect with so we offer both Indonesian and Western therapists who speak both English and Indonesian. Our experienced therapists have years of experience and doctorate level training.

We offer both individual adult and adolescent counseling services, as well as couples counseling and family counseling options for a range of issues including (but not limited to) depression, trauma, anxiety, divorce and separation, grief, and for those in recovery from addiction and alcoholism.

Additional Services

Most of our therapy services can be conducted over Zoom, or other videoconferencing methods. Some modalities are subject to availability for videoconferencing. All therapy is also available to adolescents, couples, and families. Our therapists have a range of specialities between them and we will ensure that you are matched with the therapist who specialises in the particular therapy modality that you need. 

We believe that a well rounded program delivers the best results and at the Lighthouse Bali we have many additional types of holistic and complementary therapies available including: nutritional restoration, clinical hypnotherapy, focusing, breathwork, IFS, and more.

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy

Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) is a therapeutic modality that is beneficial for a wide variety of conditions, including substance abuse, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and more.  This modality is widely used in both our inpatient recovery program, and for our private therapy clients.

CBT focuses on discovering solutions for current, every day, problems and will help you to identify negative patterns of thoughts, feelings, and actions. CBT is based on a model that has 5 interconnected parts. In our lives we are constantly involved in “situations” that will result in four types of responses: emotional, physical, thoughts, and behaviors.  You will then create strategies for breaking these negative patterns in your life. You will work together with your therapist to implement these solutions in your daily life.

Nuero Linguistic Programing

Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) explains the relationship between how we think (neuro), how we communicate verbally and non-verbally (linguistic) and our patterns of behavior and emotion (programs).

Neuro-Linguistic Programming is a highly effective methodology for modelling excellence and creating change. It is based on the principle that all behaviour has a structure and that this structure can be identified, learned and adapted to create specific outcomes.

Using the tools of NLP it is possible to ‘re-program’ old patterns, old responses and old behaviors and change them to deliver the outcomes we wish to have.

EMDR

EMDR, short for Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing, is a therapeutic treatment that is often used in the treatment of issues including trauma, alcoholism, drug addiction, and depression. This type of therapy is designed to help you process past trauma in a healthy manner.

During EMDR you recall disturbing memories in brief intervals while simultaneously focusing on an external stimulus which will allow you to process these memories or traumas.  The brain often struggles to process certain traumas, which can result in nightmares, flashbacks, or other negative behavioral responses. By accessing these traumas in a safe environment and with a psychologist, the goal is to process the traumas with more positive associations.

Mindfulness Based Therapy

Mindfulness is a holistic therapeutic technique that will help you discover present feelings and awareness about yourself including what is happening around and inside you. Mindfulness has been commonly used for thousands of years in Eastern cultures but only recently has Western medicine discovered the man benefits of this style of therapy.

Self-awareness is the key to mindfulness work and this awareness can be a steppingstone to address difficulties in your life. By becoming more aware of the present moment, you will able to regulate your emotions, leading to an increase in overall well- being.

Positive Psychology

Positive psychology is an empowering style of therapy designed to promote well-being in yourself as well as establishing more fulfilling relationships with others. Schema Therapy

Schema therapy is an integrative therapeutic treatment that combines multiple aspects of behavioral, interpersonal, and experiential therapies into one modality. The goal in schema therapy is to treat deep patterns or themes in your life, “schemas”, and usually targets patterns that were associated with negative or dysfunctional behaviors.  These patterns are often developed through a variety of coping styles such as schema avoidance, schema compensation, and schema maintenance.

Schema therapy contains three important stages. The first is a diagnostic phase in which themes and patterns will be identified. Often, our therapists will assign questionnaires to be used in real life situations to help discover these behavioral patterns. The next phase is experiential and is designed to help discover emotional awareness of these patterns in your day-to-day life. The third stage begins to address the necessary behavioral changes that will replace the negative patterns and themes with new, healthier, behavioral options.

Hypnotherapy

Hypnosis is a very powerful way of directly addressing the unconscious mind and making suggestions for positive change that are both effective and long lasting.

The actual experience of being hypnotized / being in trance is a profoundly relaxing and calming one. When any change work is completed you will feel both energized and relaxed at the same time, a wonderful state to feel at the end of each session.

Therapy time is structured around discovery in the first session, with subsequent sessions designed to give you the resources needed to achieve your desired outcome, be it changing a habit, way of thinking or emotional response.

12 Steps

The 12 step recovery model is a well-known recovery program that uses a holistic approach to work through addictive tendencies by connecting the body, mind, and spirit. The 12 step model is optional in our primary recovery program but is highly recommended as a viable long-term recovery tool. The 12 step model would be incorporated during one-to-one recovery work with your peer counselor. This model is a great addition to the therapy that you will receive from our clinical team. 

The 12 step programs are highly successful because of the connectivity between its members and the emphasis on helping others who are in need. The program is based on spirituality, which, can be described simply as our connection to the world at large. We are fortunate to have daily meeting options in Bali for multiple 12 step programs.

Life Coaching

Life Coaching is a stimulating and creative partnership that will inspire you to accelerate your personal and professional potential, often exposing untapped sources of imagination, productivity and leadership. 

Using creative and innovative tools, you will work alongside your life coach, to stimulate a deeper insight into your personal strengths and weaknesses, life goals & emotional make-up, and turn these into sustainable actions to create a more successful and enriched life of meaning and happiness.

Experiential Therapy

Experiential Therapy is a therapeutic technique that uses expressive tools and activities, such as role-playing or acting, props, art, music, animal care, guided imagery, or various forms of recreation to re-enact and re-experience emotional situations from past and recent relationships. 

Here at the Lighthouse, under the guidance of our trained therapists and clinical psychologists, our clients may use role-playing techniques, music, props, or art, to treat trauma, behavioural disorders, destructive anger, grief, eating disorders, compulsive behaviour, alcoholism and drug addiction.

Couples & Family Therapy

Couple and Family Therapy are a branch of psychotherapies that work with couples and families in intimate relationships to nurture change and development. This form of therapy encourages you and your partner/family to have an open and honest dialogue about your mental health challenges and how these impact on the wider family unit, develop an understanding of each other’s point of view, and think of ways in which you can support each other more effectively in the future.

Family and couples therapy can be delivered using a variety of therapy types, which include cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) and dialectical behaviour therapy (DBT), depending on the therapeutic technique that has been deemed as the most appropriate for your individual mental health concerns, as well as the unique dynamics within your family and personal relationships.

Adolescent Therapy

Adolescent therapy can help improve a child’s overall mood, self-worth, confidence, and self-esteem, whilst working with our clinical team and their family in order to effectively cope with the situations they are in.

Each phase of a child’s development brings specific challenges, and whilst they tend to work through these as normal a part of growing up, both circumstances and mental health conditions can make these challenges harder. They may come up due to events in a child’s life such as traumatic events, a shift in their family dynamics, and unhealthy relationships outside of their home.
