Alcohol & Substance Abuse Program
The Lighthouse Bali specializes in a one-on-one individual treatment program as opposed to the typical group rehab model. You will live in your own personal fully serviced villa in Sanur, Bali. During your customized program, which is based on your individual wants and needs, the psychologist and many wellness practitioners provide services in the comfort and privacy of your private villa.
We provide a program of recovery that is specifically tailored for you, your physical abilities and your needs and desires, rather than a one size fits all approach. Our medical and support staff have decades of experience in helping people recover from addictions to alcohol, marijuana, heroin, cocaine, crystal meth (ICE), prescription medications (including benzodiazepines) and many other substances.
One benefit of our individual rehab program is that we are flexible while maintaining structure and oversight. Our program director will work alongside you to design your weekly plan based on your needs, wants and abilities. If you prefer yoga to the gym, that is put into your plan. If you do not want to attend 12 step meetings, you do not have to. Unlike most group rehab facilities, we do not take away your laptop, phone or other devices. If you have certain times of the day when you would like to contact family or need to attend to business, this can be factored in your treatment plan, whilst prioritizing your recovery program

This counseling is a deeply effective means of discovering and healing causes and traumas that led to our addictions in the first place. Our international team of psychologists will be a guide and helping hand through your journey of self discovery.
Counseling alone is seldom enough as a standalone treatment for addictions, though when used in collaboration with addiction specific methods, is a potent and powerful tool to give you a firm foundation on which your recovery will be built. This is what makes the Lighthouse and our Flexible Recovery System unique and powerful, pulling all the best resources available and distilling them into a client focused and individual program.
Types of Counseling
Some of counselors also uses EMDR as a treatment modality specifically to assist people in overcoming and reprocessing simple and complex trauma. They all work from a holistic framework and understand the important relationship between our mental health and physical well being.

It leads the client into a highly focused state where the client’s own strengths are amplified and brought into agency for positive change.

- Is a powerful and effective therapy for a wide range of conditions, including substance abuse, mood disorders, and even chronic pain
Breathwork
Breathing is a physical tool that is often overlooked as we become adults. Regulating our breathing can have a profound impact to our emotional reactions. When we can learn to regulate our breath, we can tune into our bodies and use it as a tool to regulate ourselves. A type of self-soothing. Learning this practice and mastering it allows us more control and awareness of our moods, stresses, and emotional well-being. Life can present triggers in many forms. Social anxiety, stress at work, family gatherings, any number of situations. Breathwork can allow us more intuitive control over our experience in life.
- Regulate Emotions
- Better Blood Circulation, and Lower Stress Levels
- Enhanced Control of our Life Experiences
We strongly believe that not including a client in their own recovery program is a disservice and doomed to fail. We must take into account the special and unique needs and circumstances surrounding the experiences leading to seek out treatment. No two addicts are the same, therefore their treatment should also be unique. With this in mind, all flex modules are on a request basis. Your recovery team, comprised of Clinical, Peer Counseling, and Operations will determine that requested flex modules are safe and in the best interest of the client based on detox, clinical assessment, and overall willingness will all aspects of the core program.
More about Alcoholism and Addiction
Alcoholism
Alcoholism is one of the most difficult addictions to detect due to the “socially acceptable” view of drinking, and drinking to excess, being the norm in many regions. More often than not, alcoholic drinking eventually leads to issues in the workplace, with family members at home, and with friends in social settings. Problems due to alcoholism may become apparent to friends and family before the individual is aware of them. Often, alcoholics will go to great lengths to hide the extent of their drinking which can lead to alcoholism going undetected for years.
Common symptoms of alcoholism can include:
- Drinking more alcohol than planned
- Inability to cut back or stop drinking
- Spending an excessive amount of time drinking, being sick, or hungover
- Experiencing cravings for alcohol
- Problems with work, school, or family due to alcohol
- Continued drinking regardless of the problems for you or your relationships (even after an ultimatum)
- Stopping or limiting other activities that were important to you in order to continue drinking
- Driving while under the influence of alcohol or having a disregard for personal safety
- Having memory blackouts due to drinking (periods of time you cannot recall)
- Progressively increasing alcohol consumption to achieve the desired effect
- Having withdrawal symptoms from alcohol use including: trouble sleeping, shakiness, restlessness, nausea, sweating, racing heart, seizures, or having hallucinations
Not all alcoholics become 24/7 or ‘daily drinkers’, but one of the common features of alcoholism is the inability to stop or change your drinking behaviours on your own or for extended periods of time.
At the Lighthouse Bali our caring and professional team is dedicated to helping you overcome your alcoholism, changing your life and becoming the best version of yourself. Reaching out for help is the first step on an incredible journey to recovery.
Please note that our alcohol rehab programs include a medical detox to help you to pass this early stage of your recovery in maximum comfort possible.
Substance Addiction
Substance Addiction takes many names and many forms and can start without a thought or intention of abuse, such as in the case of prescribed medication. Often, the patient does not plan to take more medication than has been prescribed by a medical professional.
An example of prescription medication abuse might be following a major accident or surgery where prescription painkillers are given to help manage the pain. Soon, you’re finishing the medication a few days ahead of time… then a week… and suddenly the pills are gone just days after you picked up the prescription for the pharmacy. The next thing you know, you are lying about losing the bottle, having more pain, you try to get the doctor to up the number of pills in the prescription, you try to fill the prescription at multiple pharmacies, and then, of course, the cycle of addiction has begun.
For others, addiction may begin with an intention to experience a high – or a low – anything to not deal with the daily stresses, underlying fears and difficulties that life throws our way. Using substances easily escalates and while no-one has the intention to become an addict, once the cycle of addiction has taken hold, it is often too difficult to break without help.
Some common signs of substance addiction include the following:
- Using prescription drugs in a non-medical way
- Being dishonest about your using
- Being arrested for anything drug related
- Increasing drug dosage to get the same high as before
- Mixing drugs or switching drugs or drug types to get the same high as before
- Family or friends mentioning your drug intake
- Drug use impacting on your work or education
- Losing friendships or relationships due to using
- When not taking drugs, obsessing over obtaining them or when you can next use
- Committing criminal acts (theft etc) to support buying drugs
- Financing drug purchases has become more important than other financial commitments e.g. rent, utilities
- Feeling physically sick or experiencing other withdrawal symptoms when you stop using
- Feeling ashamed or guilty about your drug using
- Thinking that you cannot cope or enjoy life without drugs
- Abandoning commitments, hobbies and other activities that you enjoyed previously in order to use
- Black outs or unconsciousness
- An inability to stop using or an inability to stay stopped for any period of time
- Continuing to use despite negative consequences
- Overdose
Substance addiction caries a component of withdrawal. Many addicts report using more and more simply so they do not have to experience the symptoms of withdrawal. This causes the use to increase incrementally, as well as more and more frequently, often rising to dangerous levels. At this point, overdose becomes likely, and the drug use suddenly controls the user.
No matter where on the scale you are finding yourself, two things are certain. One, no matter how much you are using and where on the scale you are, it will eventually get worse. Two, there is help and a way out. Recovery is possible for everyone – no matter how high or low your ‘bottom’ is.
At the Lighthouse Bali, our caring and professional team is dedicated to helping you overcome your addiction, changing your life and becoming the best version of yourself. We provide a program of recovery that is specifically tailored for you, your physical abilities and your needs and desires rather than a one size fits all approach. Our medical and support staff have years of experience helping people recover from addictions to alcohol, marijuana, heroin, morphine, Fentanyl, Oxycontin, Oxycodone, cocaine, crystal meth (ICE), Xanax, Valium, other prescription medications, benzodiazepines and many other substances. Reaching out for help is your first step on an incredible journey to recovery.
Please note that our substance addiction rehab programs include a medical detox to help you to pass this early stage of your recovery in maximum comfort possible.
