Bali Volunteering

Committed to Local Community Outreach Programs in Bali

Community Outreach is a cornerstone of The Lighthouse Bali, one which are team is very passionate about .

Through the Lighthouse Bali’s nonprofit, Yayasan Bali Mercusuar, we  volunteer in the local community with educational lectures and workshops and by the sharing our experience, strength and hope, The Lighthouse Bali is making a difference!

The Lighthouse Bali’s Community Outreach Programs are provided to a number of different facilities, schools, and villages throughout Bali. These Programs provide information regarding the use and abuse of alcohol and drugs, signs of addiction, and both the long-term and short-term health impacts of each substance, and the solution – the recovery process.

The goals of our programs are simple:

  • to raise awareness and understanding of the dangers of drug and alcohol addiction;
  • to provide information regarding locally available support groups, treatment centers, and family support services for those suffering from addiction.

Drug and alcohol abuse is a huge problem in Indonesian, and is continuing to grow. Millions of individuals are suffering and, unlike most Western countries, government aid is not readily available for those without the financial means to afford private treatment.

Strict laws regarding possession of drugs are enforced, with no differentiation between “users” “dealers” and “traffickers”. At the beginning of 2013, 133 people sat on death row in Indonesia – 71 of these individuals were convicted of drug offenses. In 2014, attorneys in Indonesia began a focused effort to work with the court system to offer arrested “users” the opportunity to seek treatment in rehabilitation centers. The Lighthouse Bali looks forward to helping this major plan become a reality.

Since the 1990s, HIV/AIDS has become a major epidemic in Indonesia, with approximately 59% of new cases resulting from intravenous drug use. As a response to this, a number of non-profit organizations have collaborated with the government to provide drug, alcohol and HIV/AIDS education through community outreach. The Lighthouse Bali is honored to be included in this group of caring professionals.

With recovery comes awareness and the ability to show up where needed. Our outreach coordinators stay on top of important issues in Indonesia and facilitate projects to help. Whether it’s a visit to a school in a marginalized area, volunteering at an animal refuge or coordinating supplies for Balinese villagers who have been evacuated from their homes, our outreach team members are ready with a smile and a helping hand.
